DESCRIPTION OF ACTIVITY:
Have you ever thought that a plant growing in the wild might also be able to feed, cure or clothe you? This is a proposal for you to get to know the local plants and their uses. Enjoy an unforgettable weekend in the very heart of nature at Serra-rica.

On one of the days you will take a walk around the fascinating oak woodlands of the area. We will see how all of the different varieties live in harmony, maintaining the balance of the forest.
We will also visit the estate's old acorn well, that today forms part of municipal heritage.

Duration of the activity: 3 hours aprox
Minimum group: 5 peoples

We complement this weekend activity with a visit to the ethno-botanical collection of Mas el Jalech in Balenyà, in the south of the county. In the visit to the gardens we will find a selection of plants that can also be found in the oaks forests of the Serra-rica estate, as well as other plants found in the ecological allotment of the Private Foundation "Fent Vida" or "Creating Life".
Here you can also enjoy a wide variety of salads, local fruits and delicious infusions. All of the produce is naturally cultivated.

This year, 2009, the international year of textile fibres, there will also be the chance to take part in weaving and basket making workshops.

DESCRIPTION OF ACTIVITY:
The Llavina Mill offers the possibility to see and take part in the transformation of wheat into flour in exactly the same way as it was done in the time of our grandparent and their grandparents.
This mill is powered solely by the force of water to make their wholemeal flour, containing all of the original elements of the wheat: wheat germ, sago and of course the flour itself. This is a fine example of both a sustainable and an ecological activity.

They have been making cheese in this same mill since 1985. Here they make both both cow and goat cheese and are famous for their creation of the first ever Catalan blue cheese "Blau d'Osona", as well as fresh cheeses and cheese cakes. Alongside the working mill there is also a shop where all of their products can be bought.

A visit to the mill might also include breakfast or a cold lunch.

We have all tasted wonderful cheese... Relax and enjoy a perfect weekend at Mas Serra-Rica in Muntanyola whilst visiting an artisan cheese maker, loose yourselves in the intricacies of the process, goat?s milk and fine soft cheeses, guided in the ancestral process by the master cheese maker of Vila Vendrell, Muntanyola. Here you will also be able to enjoy a taste of different cheeses from the matured to the young.

Enjoy those lost smells... soap from years gone by... rediscover the lost knowledge: making use of oil and fats for making soap. At the same time contributing to create ecological equilibrium and transformation of one of the great contaminators of the earth, used oils and the remains of other soaps. All of this in the natural surroundings of an isolated farmhouse in the midst of exquisite countryside.
